Are cashews ok to use for a treat or are we better to stick to almonds / walnuts etc.

They are raw and unsalted of course. :)

I allow mine now and then to have them, they are in some of the mixes I buy. I will say the nuts of favor here are pistachios (roasted no salt) and almonds. Walnut I offer very little but if it's in the mix they can have it.

NO peanuts here in or out of the shell. I watch their nut intake, but geez they love pistachios in the shell. Every few days they can have a few at a time.

They're usually in my seed mix as well. I don't mind Ralphie having them. He only gets a little amount of seed anyways.

I let them have them now and then but not all the time. I only let them have nuts a few times a week mostly I stick to almonds and pistachios. I don't know why it's just a very oily nut. :o:

Ah, thanks - I was just wondering, because I have read from some other sources that it's one of the preferred nuts, nutritionally, for parrots, despite the oil content.

I need to educate myself more fully.

Walnuts are really high in omega-3s, manganese, and copper. So let your birds eat up :)

I know they are a good nut but with Amazons and fatty liver disease is always my concern. They wont miss what they dont get. So I just stick to those two nuts basically. Even though they are flighted, I still watch what they eat with things. I would rather be safe than sorry. I can certainly say that my parrotlet is still here almost 13 yrs later, he never had alot of seed or sunflower seeds which will give a parrotlet an early death to fatty liver disease.

Cashews are very well loved here!
