This is a difficult time, and I don't want to make your burden heavier... But if possilble ask what method they use. Inhaled anesthetic overdose is a very gentle way since they simply feel sleepy and that is all. You may even be able to provide a favorite (small) towel or toy for something familiar. Try to avoid CO2 if possible. I speak from having personally seen both methods through my work.

Ask about payment plans!!! The vet we approached during a time of need was willing to do a month-to-month payment plan. Most vets go into the work because they love animals and don't want to see them suffer.
