I want to get 2 zebrafinches for in a cage at my home office.
I am searching gor a suitable cage.
Pffcourse it should be big enough, but it also should be practical with cleaning and maintenance, due to a shoulder injury.

I was considering the montana madeira cages, it is spacious enough i think, and has a large door for easy access. I would be afraid that the birds could escape trough the large door while cleaning. And i am also afraid that the cage might be too roughly built/looking for these tiny birds? What do you think?

I also consider the ferplast piano 7 (or 6, but it has small doors)
or the ferplast canto (without the devider),
but that might be too small.
What do you think is the best option?

Links with cage information and pictures are in the next post.

I've got the Madeira 1 and the Madeira 2 and with birds who are not tame the cleaning could be a bit of a struggle.
My budgie, who wasn't tame, was living in the Madeira 1 cage and when I needed to do a total cleaning of his whole cage, I transferred him temporary to his travel carrier to be able to clean thoroughly.
For cleaning small things I blocked the opening with my upper body so he couldn't accidentally escape (that never happened in 4-5 years of him living in the cage).

What I really like about the Madeira cages is how spacious they are and for cleaning the ground area you can just take the drawer out of it without disturbing the birds (dependent on what kind of substrate you use).
Also being able to change the food/drinking bowls without having to go into the cage itself is for me a plus.

A con would be though that it can be difficult to put perches on the back wall without opening the upper part of the cages.
I'm not sure if the New Madeira cage is able to open from above?

I personally like the Ferplast cages less with the plastic bottom and the clips that hold on to the top.
I would be afraid (although perhaps unnecessary!) for toes to get stuck.

This site says bar space sizing for finches needs to be 1/4" (0,64 cm) to 1/2" (1,27 cm) but a quick google search says that 1/2" is okay as bar space sizing for zebra finches.
So the Madeira cages sizing would be okay for finches as far as I can see.
Also also: I'm not secretly a vendor of these cages or something, just really love having them for my birds and am a bit enthusiastic about them

thank you, with the montana cages i am also worried about escaping when cleaning. and the cage design might be a bit coarse for such small birds? can you still see them at all?
i also don't like the clip construction from the feplast cages. would rather have a cage with a whole top.
ferplast has the canto cage, (i do like the feeding bowls, less mess) but i think the cage is too small for two finches?
