yesterday my nan found a baby budgie in her yard, she brought him inside and called my father and I up to come pick him up. he doesn't appear to have any injuries at all, we brought him home and he seemed to act like a normal bird. until this morning when he was very sleepy, puffed up, unresponsive - so, very clearly in shock. we've dealt with our own birds in shock before (mainly when our conure has flown into the door, we've put things on the door now to stop that and he hasn't flown into it since)

so we've got him in a cage on a heatbag with a teatowel over it, he has a blanket over his cage to keep the warmth in. is there anything else we should be doing right now to keep him alive?

The key is warmth and being quick in getting the little one to a vet. Has he eaten or drank?

Have you located a vet nearby? Explain this is an emergency and you need an emergency appointment

Have you gotten to a vet or emergency clinic yet? Does anyone in your neighborhood have budgies?

we don't have much in the way of vets around here so the closest one would be around half an hour away. And i'm currently home alone without the ability to drive, we've called them about our conure being in shock before and they recommended that we didn't bring him over until he had come out of shock so i'm not sure that a vet would be possible right now. He has drank water, he drank some the night before. And he was given grass with grass seeds to eat as well as some seed. Right now he's not interested but there's no point in forcing him to eat right now.

@Lady Jane
we did ask around where he was found to see if he belonged to anyone there but it came up negative ): right now we're just making sure he makes it before trying to find the owner.

just an update, I re-heated his heatbag up not too long ago and he seemed to be more responsive which is nice. He actually told me off for moving him and tried to grab onto the teatowel instead of just letting me move him without a fight. Hopefully he can pull through alright, we're just worried because he is only a little one )':

Try to get some fluids in, 50% water 50% premade Pedialyte in a syringe, bring droplet to the top of syringe and see if it will lick it off. If it does keep doing it drop by drop.

Do his droppings look normal? I would make sure he has access to food even though he's not really eating right now.

So sorry to hear of the loss! :( Do you know if this was in fact a pet bird or perhaps a wild one?
