Ive seen those little bird jackets..tey look easier to get off him if he does flip out?

No personal experience. I never used anything on pluckers. I used an e.collar on a self-mutilator until the 'hole' healed but was put on at the vet's.

My vet will absolutely not use these. She says anything that you attach with screws is just not a good idea. My worry would be that if you managed to get it on and your bird doesn't adjust, will you be able to get it off?

Pam makes adorable little flower collars. I have one just in case for Giggie if she escalates. Although it doesn't help poor Carlton's feathers now that she figured out she can shred his too.

@birdnerd can you take a photo of it as I haven't seen a bubble collar and just knowing lorikeets they would work out a way to dismantle or remove it!!!

There are a few options but let's see what your vet has given?

I have a bubble collar for Reggie. There are no screws, the two plastic pieces snap together. It isn't hard to get off but is hard to get on even with a willing bird as Reggie is, or as willing as they come. In the end, while he couldn't get it off, it didn't stop the majority of his picking. I'd also be very careful with any material. They can so quickly rip it apart and turn it into something deadly like a noose.

this is the bubble collar... I haven't used it. I haven't got a hope in hell of getting it on him! But I don't really want to either... I think it would terrify him to be honest. Thanks for the info everyone..much appreciated...

Madeleine Franco makes a very nice leather collar that I would trust. If you're interested, I can PM her contact info to you. I think that's the only collar I would really trust other than a collar that my vet makes on the spot.

the picking is just on his chest.. I was trying to attach a photo, but it doesn't seem to be working.. he seems to let the feathers grow so they arejust out..then he pulls them out...its not like hes constantly at them.... hes my little puzzle at the moment :)

My lovebird has been wearing a bubble collar for 6 weeks now & he's doing fine with it on. It just took him a day to get used to it.

Can you please let me know where you got your bubble collar at? I have searched all over the internet and cannot seem to find where I can purchase them. My lovebird has been plucking for 6 months, I've taken him to a vet numerous times, there is nothing wrong. I've tried 8 different collars but he always chews them, rips them and I'm afraid of him strangling himself with the fabric ones. I think the bubble collar would be best as its plastic and he wouldn't be able to chew at it. Thank You!

I have a bubble collar that I used on Reggie but he could get around it. I doubled it up with other collars, like a leather collar below it to cover his shoulders and to stop him from getting below his shoulders. It stretches the neck out a bit. It's pretty easy to use if you have a bird that's easy to handle. I can take pictures of it for you if you want but basically, it just two pieces of plastic that snap together. If you can't handle the bird you want to put it on really well, you're going to have a hard time getting it on said bird. I would cry if I had to put this on one of my greys. You would also want to use it in conjunction with some collar that will cover the shoulders or it's probably not going to help. And if you can't find a solution to the plucking, ultimately, it's probably not going to solve the problem anyway. Reggie had zinc poisoning and ultimately pulled all his feathers out and now he's mostly naked. We chelated three times and just couldn't get the zinc levels to ultimately come down low enough. Chelation is very hard on the body and we didn't want to keep going. This was about eight or nine years ago and I had him retested about two years ago and it was still high but had dropped some more. Chronic zinc toxicity is a really hard thing to deal with. I would definitely test for metal toxicity on a picking bird if you haven't already.

I got the bubble collar on line somewhere. It's been years so I'm not sure where but I did have to do a lot of searching. You could probably also ask your vet, they should know where to get one or even order one for you..
