I found a tree that was cut a few years ago.

Secret loves a flat perch. The latest basswood perch was killed before bedtime. It just broke my heart she kept going up the cage to look for it to go to bed.

I can't tell if the black walnut is bad or why from the lists that I saw.

thanks- bummer about the logs though. Was hopeful I had a large crop of flat perches.

Back to trying to find a saw mill that wants them.

I'll second that. Back Walnut is a very oily wood and not safe to chew on.

Try maple, it's safe and harder than basswood. You can buy maple boards for shelving pretty cheaply, just cut off a piece, add 2 hanger bolts and you have a platform perch.
