A NEW EXPANDED BIRD TRAINING CLASS class is being taught by Cathy Schlott, Animal Training Manager at the National Aviary at Pittsburgh, who was, along with "Jungle" Jack Hanna, on The David Letterman Show and Good Morning America in the past two weeks and has taped a segment scheduled to show on The Martha Stewart Show, soon. She has extensive experience working with a variety of bird species and has managed the indoor and outdoor bird shows at the National Aviary since 2007. This includes, "Wings!" - The Indoor Free Flight Avian Adventure, with flying eagles, owls, vultures, hawks, macaws, and more. In addition to animal training, she has a background in wildlife rehabilitation, environmental education, and biology. She is also a professional member of The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), The International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators (IAATE), and currently serves on the board of directors for ABMA (Animal Behavior Management Alliance).

This class includes the techniques professional trainers use with performing animals, as well as, information on how the companion parrot keeper can guide their birds through different behaviors and tricks even including participation in their own care. It is newly expanded and refined from a shorter class that was previously taught at the National Aviary in partnership with the Pittsburgh affiliate of PEAC (Parrot Education & Adoption Center).

The class will be Sunday, March 11, at 2:00 PM (NEW TIME)..(1:00 PM, old time if you didn't move your clock ahead for Daylight Savings Time), and last until somewhere between 3:30 and 4:00PM. You can find directions and information on the National Aviary here: Pittsburgh's National Aviary - Nation's Premier Bird Zoo
