Hello, a little background. Benjamin was found by my teaching colleague in her backyard in the mouth of her cat. Ahhhhh.
She rescued the bird and searched high and low - near and far for "lost bird" owners to be reunited. After several days with no luck, she had a friend's brother - who happens to be a falconer - assist in getting set up with all the things necessary for companion bird to be adopted out. That is when she asked at our team meeting if anyone wanted a beautiful English Budgerigar (came with cage, food, toys, etc.). I don't know what happened to me in that moment. I've never had a bird. I've never known anyone with a bird. I've never wanted a bird. But here I was saying, "I want to meet bird first, and if it is a good match, I will take bird home to live with me."
Bird and I have been together since April 16, 2023. I named him Benjamin. He got blood work, vitamin injections, nail trim and physical good bill of health from our nearby Avian Vet. I enjoy his singing, chirping, and (what I call) R2D2 sounds. He eats mostly seed, but is slowly accepting Roudybush Nibles - where he didn't touch the larger pellets. He chews on a variety of vegetables and loves millett as a treat. We are getting to know one another and Benjamin seems to trust me. I am considering getting a bird friend for him as I read all over the place that Budgies are very social and thrive best with a bird partner. I am not sold on the idea of two birds - but maybe in the future. . . . So that is our story and what brought me to this site. I've enjoyed reading past posts and getting a sense of what everyone has to say about their bird friends. I also find the variety of emojis fabulous fun
