Nitro has been having some trouble going to sleep recently. She's awake with me right now, too. Her and Rally go to bed every night around 10 (that's when I get home). They have a cover over the cage as well. She settles down when in her cage, but around this time she wakes back up and I can her her chirping until I check on her, and then she wants out. Also, she hasn't been sleeping in her hut either. Lately, she's been on top of it! Do you think this could be because she's starting sexual maturity?

is there light in the room and noise? Have you tried putting the cover on in a completely dark quiet room and not checking on her when she chirps?

I'm not sure about an the maturity part of the question, but every once and a while Kai will wake up after I've put him to bed. Usually something has woken him (college town, you can't really avoid noises sometimes) and he'll get upset. I'll usually check on him, talk softly, get him out for a few seconds and put him back to bed. It's worked for me. I figure he knows that I haven't abandoned him, but he also still has to go back to bed and doesn't connect chirping loudly at all hours with getting let out of the cage.

If she sleeps in a very quiet room then any noise will wake her up. I would have "white noise" in there while she sleeps to drown out any outside noises that may occur. The noise is almost like a soother. Always going to her when she wakes up is reinforcing the behavior.
