Hey everyone,

So my parakeets mated and had five babies and only one has a splayed leg. I’ve tried everything to correct it but it seems like it’s too far gone. I’m so sad for this baby but I know it’s going to be ok. At the moment it’s the only baby that has not left the nesting box. At this point should I just go ahead and place this baby in it’s own cage or separate all the babies and keep them in a separate cage from their parents. I just feel so sad removing this baby from everyone else.

I would probably put this baby in a cage alone for now, if it’s weaned as the other babies might push it around.

I had a female budgie in the past with this type of splay and she lived with three other budgies. Not all budgies will be nice to slower/less able birds though.

I’d provide him with some platform perches and a few vet wrapped perches too.
