A baby Koala was brought into the Wildlife Hospital two weeks ago. She was found on the ground under a tree. Her mum was up the tree but could not be coaxed down to get her joey. :(

The joey was starting to get cold so a kind member of the public brought her in to us.

We suspect a dog attacked the mum. Her joey was either pulled out of her pouch or abandoned because the mum was under so much stress.

The baby Koala is only about 6 months old.

She is stable and will be going to a specialised Koala carer to be rehabilitated back into the wild. :)

Beautiful bub  There was a baby wombat at the vets but I didn't have my camera at the time. I'm so annoyed :(

I found out today that she has a bit of brain damage. :(

So she won't be returned to the wild. However, she will be joining our captive population to give some gene diversity to the breeding program. At least this way she will always be safe, secure, have lots of food and loads of other Koalas to hang out with.

Though it would have been nice to see her go back into the wild. :(

Do Koalas "sacrifice" their joeys when in danger? I know that female kangaroos will do that if their lives are seriously threatened.

Yes, all marsupials do. They will also abort their joeys when there is not enough food or water available.

Poor little thing. Thank goodness someone brought her in to you so she can have a happy life.
I saw a poster for a zoo in an airport -- maybe Atlanta -- it was a pic of two koalas in a tree, and it said, "Admit it. You'd let them sleep in your bed." ;)
