Sprinting down the street
My 3rd child, a boy, was born on 11-20-10. That evening when my husband came home from the hospital he was greeted w/ another blessing...our kinkajou Scarlet also had given birth, but to a baby girl.
We have 3 adult kinkajous in our home but we do not own them. A friend had too many to care for so we took 3 adult for him, with the agreement if there was a baby we would get to keep it.
Unfortunately, Scarlet was not producing milk and her baby was pulled from her at 2 days old. As some of you might be aware, bottle feeding ANY animal that is 2 days old is VERY touchy and "Skyler" as we named her, wasn't expected to live. Risk of aspiration is very high because she is so tiny.
WELL...today Skyler is 17 days old!!!!!!!!!! Her eyes are starting to open and she is FINALLY gaining weight! This is after 17 days of waking every hour to feed her. My husband & I take shifts feeding and she was touch and go for 2 weeks. Today I think I can safely say she is almost out of the woods.
So 17 days ago I was blessed w/ my son Kyler and my "daughter" Skyler. I have attached some pics of her. Kinkajous are in the raccoon family but more similiar in appearance & behavior to a monkey.
