A question for those members that have the pleasure of owning both; how do they compare?

From my experience the GW is a lot more laid back and the BG is a lot more active.

But I dont own either, just from interactions.

The two I have /had in comparison with all the B&G's have have...GW are big babies!
My B&G's are a mixture....
To me, it is hard to compare...it's like certain taste in apples a Cortland (GW) to a Granny Smith( B&G):D

Well I have had both. Lets start with my former blue and gold.
He loved to play and play rough, hang up side down and scream bloody murder when he was playing but he also liked to snuggle for a brief moment.. Then he would pretend he was gonna get me. We had a fun rough and tumble relationship but neither of us were ever mean with each other. He would step up to anyone even my 6 year old son. He could talk and sing and he loved to investigate every thing. He was a Bolivian B&G and weighted 1345 grams. He hated water and loved food.
Now for the Greenwing
She was not much of a playing type of bird. She enjoyed just sitting on a perch or play tree or myself. She loved to snuggle and would lay on her back next to me and let me rub her tummy. She was always perching on my arm and tucking her head under my chin wrapping her wings around me and purring. The kids could not go anywhere near her she hated kids they upset her and pity help a stranger if they get to close to her when I was with in sight. She could say a few things under 10 words BUT she NEVER screamed for attention or anything else for that matter. She was very dainty and weighted in at 1150 grams. She loved water and was a picky eater.
I really enjoyed the B&G personality (clownish) and the GW personality (very gentle and loving) but for very different reasons

My friend that I bird sit for has a B&G and a Harlequin (B&G/GW hybrid). The Harlequin is pretty gentle, but is also very active. He is very cuddly with his mom, but is nervous of strangers. He will step up for me but will freak out if I try to touch him.
Her B&G is a monster! He is very loud, hormonal, and aggressive. He will be dancing on your arm one minute, and the next, taking a chunk out of you. He is very jealous if you play with the Harlequin and likes to lunge at your face (he has gotten his mom pretty good on her face before). He will also attack your feet so you always have to wear good shoes when he's out.
Keep in mind these are both rescues, but came from similar backgrounds, and were not mistreated or neglected. They are also both around the same age 5-7 I believe.
Edit: I also have experience with several other B&Gs from the rescue. They've all been very comical, playful, beaky, loud, talkative; just plain over the top. I've never actually spent time with a GW so I can't speak for them.

Hi, gosh I read this thread and was going to answer, then must have forgot.

We have 2 B&Gs and 3 GWs. Both of the B&Gs have different personalities, but totally different backgrounds but are close to the same age. One is more quiet and reserved, this is Savanah who is a rehome from a family where she seriously bit nose of the husband so she had to go....

Here she is posing for the camera.

Then there is our other B&G, Winged Victory who is very outgoing, talkative and a clown putting it nicely! He is extremely smart, keeps himself handsomely preened all the time. He came to us from a spoiled home where one parront spent alot of time with him, but the other parront didn't particularily like parrots at all. We are continuing the spoiled home style!

then we have our GWs. Skittles who came to us from Florida at 5 months is very active and needs to be busy all of the time. She isn't loud, but loves to sing with the flock. She isn't real cuddly, but very friendly with the flock.

I am putting personality of each with their pics.

They all have their different personalities and if a person was looking for a particular personality, I would say that they might be disappointed because they are all so different. I have read where GWs are more laid back, but ours aren't.

So in summary, I don't think the species drives personality, it's their socialization. I have a loving quiet B&G, and an out going active talkative one and the same with the GWs.

I agree and truly hate the generalisations that find their way into books and the internet - Amazons feel the brunt of this a lot!

How does your flock compare size wise? I have seen some large B&Gs and small GWs but would expect the GWs to generally be larger.

Our GWs are larger, all between 1200 - 1300g with our B&Gs weighing between 900 - 1000g which is typical from what I read.

GWs are typically more laid back compared to BGs. BGs are more Voiceterous, but when a GW starts boy is he LOUD. If raised right, GWs are just active PLAYFUL clowns just like the BG. And if raised correctly, they can be clowns as well.

All the BGs I know weigh around 800grams-1200grams (and yes some are overweight, and should lose atleast 100 grams)

GWs I know weight around 1100-1300 (same as above, a couple of them should lose some weight).

I would say that the B&G are a little bit more fisty where as the GW;s are more layed back..

I really think that both in comparision when playing can get pretty hyper LOL..

I;m not really sure what you mean by compare..size, behavior, foods, ect....?:hehe:
