Hi peepers

Got this Amazon as a rescue intake today... Came as a vicious biter, but would you believe I gave him some wonderful pets right in front of the owner's family and they were shocked.
He's stick tame, a huge talker, and just wants love. Clearly in pretty bad shape, severe FDB, needs a slight diet revamp. Still not anywhere close to the worst I've seen.
ANYWAYS-name's currently Zazu. I believe he's a parvipes or at least heavy influence. He is an import and sounds like a wild caught. Wouldn't be the first wild caught from Honduras I've worked with! Just curious on everyone's opinions. Thaaaaanks!

Zazu says thanx:yca:

Lovely parrot and interesting question.

The extensive yellow markings on the head leads to parvipes, but being an adult it should have red on bend of wings and - at least in the pictures - yours doesn´t show it.

maybe this helps: in Yellow Naped Amazon (Amazona a palliata & a parvipes)

Subspecies
(1) A. a. auropalliata: Both adults green forehead and crown to area around eyes; yellow patch on lower nape to hindneck that varies with the individual; red on bend of wing absent; yellow on thighs absent. Bill dark grey with pale grey on sides of upper mandible. Eye ring narrow and grey.
Generally the heaviest of the Amazons except for the Southern Mealy Amazon that comes in at 540 - 700g & a length of 38 - 40cm compared to 480 - 680g & a length of 30 - 38cm.

(2) A.a. parvipes: Both adults as in auropalliata but yellow on nape more extensive; occasional other yellow markings on forehead; red on bend of wing. Bill pale grey with dark grey markings.
Generally smaller & darker in colour
(3) A.a. carbaea: Both adults as in parvipes but more olive/green to underparts; paler in general; grey/horn coloured lower mandible.

He's adorable.....

Amazons are such sweeties (even on those days they assume the mean eagle/dinosaur attitude).

Secret, my BFA, is wild caught

I know that you said that you believe that he is wild caught. However, if he is not, it is unfortunately very likely that he is a hybrid. This has sadly happened with subspecies of most parrots in captivity. It has lead to the almost disappearance of most pure subspecies in captivity.

The lack of red on the bend of the wing makes me think he's probably one of those in between birds that isn't pure subspecies. He is probably influenced by parvipes or Caribbean genetics. Maybe from an area nearby where there is a lot of movement/gene flow back and forth between the areas. Or he's a captive bred bird where someone just threw together a couple of yellow napes and called it good.
