I wanted to share my new hand-made aviary with you guys. It toke me 5 days and a lot of back-pain to finish it. I wanted to build a big aviary for long, but that's all I was able to do.

I will show you the steps. First, I made the measures....I needed it to pass through the door so it had to be .65 m in depth, I needed to stand inside it so it's 2 m tall and needed room for my fids so it's 1.5 m wide.

I went to buy the required wood and material

Now it's time to start building. The sides are made first

then i collected the sides together forming the main frame and the median post

The back was made of wood and the front and sides were wire. I made the shelf on the right to make space for nests and toys and to prevent them from getting out when i go inside it, as the door is just below this shelf. I started fixing the back and installing the roof support over the sides to the median post.

then the wire is put together and the floor is set to drawers to ease cleaning.

In a few days i will post pics with the fids inside. But what color should i paint it????
I hope u like it.

Paint could be harmful to
your birds. I would leave it
as natural wood. Nice job.

I'm interested to see it occupied because I don't quite get it yet! Will the birds live in the left part also, or just the right half?

Kathy, I was going to say that the middle strip of wood is looks like it's just for support and it doesn't look as if there's anything separating the two sides. It looks quite nice and there should definitely be enough ventilation through it too.

Sorry Ahmet, I'd meant to ask if this is going to be outside or if's going to be inside the house?

for now, it's indoor as it's freezing these days in Egypt. But as the weather improves, it'll be standing in the balcony

there's a little problem, they seem to can't see the lower half of it. they just keep flying in the upper half.
i even put their food and drink down there and they didn't goo near it, but as soon as i put it on the shelf they ran to it.

Are lovebirds ground feeders? If not they may have no interest in the bottom of the aviary. I built an 11' tall outside aviary for my eclectus this past summer and for the most part they use the top 4 feet!
