I've searched it and half the sites say it's safe and the other say it's not safe. I don't plan on letting them eat it. Just moving all my plants upstairs because I'm not giving them the care they need where they are now because I got sick and tired of my FIL talking crap behind my back and cussing whenever I'd go to water them. So I try to stay out of "his area" as much as possible. And after him almost throwing away one plant and then actually throwing away another:( I'm not taking any more chances and am moving them.
Which I can put it in the bathroom just running out of room in there with the one hanging plant already in there and having to put a non hanging plant in there as well.
Sorry for the little rant.:o:

So is Hoya plant safe or not safe?

so far I have found they are also called Hindu or Indian rope plantsor wax plants

these links from BF says they are safe -
http://www.busybirds.net/Toxic.html

http://www.cockatielcottage.net/houseplants.html

http://www.avianweb.com/safeplants.html

and this site has them on their unsafe list but I am not sure about them - they list hoya unsafe and wax plant safe

Toxic and Safe Plants/Trees for Birds - Household Poisons

many of the sites I checked did not list them under any of the above names

do you happen to know which species of Hoya that you have

I am leaning to the safe side here :)

I have no clue, but if most of the sites say no, I would keep it away from your fids!

Here's acouple pictures of the one I moved up to our kitchen today. The one that I still need to move is alot bigger. This is one of the plants I inherited when my husbands step mom passed away.

Thanks. The thing that "creeps" me out about them is how they will grow and reach out for something else. It's like how did it know to grow in that direction. Like the other one has seriously vined out probably 2 feet along nothing but the ceiling to be able to wrap around the hanger for my pineapple plant.
But I still really like them the flowers are always so pretty.

Doesn't it make you wonder how it knows how to grow that direction though? Makes it more of a living thing that's for sure.
