The TOOs have been sneaking off to do the nasty every chance they get for a few weeks now. I checked Amanda and there is an egg in the oven.

Tonight she is very quiet and squatting quietly on my wife's lap. I expect an egg tonight during the night in her sleep cage if history repeats itself. Tika has been very attentive.

Here we go again. :(

How do you make it out alive???
That's a tricky one. I wait for them to come upstairs for dinner and while the wife keeps them busy for a while I go back downstairs and make the switch. :)

Even though this event is natural, I'm glad she has you to watch over her.

Wow, I had no idea she does this. How often does this happen? How long does she stay with the fakes?

So if I understand correctly.. you remove her "real" egg and replace it with a fraud? How long does that go on for? Doesn't she get frustrated and anxious when it doesn't crack eventually?

Once per year at least. Sometimes two but not always.

She sits on them for about 30 days and then abandons them. When she abandons them she just goes back to doing the things she did before she layed them and never gives them a second look. No different than if things don't hatch in the wild. They just look at it like a failed laying and move on hoping for better next year. JME

I feel your pain,I have a lovie getting ready to lay as well!I try and try to prevent the stinker from wanting to nest, but my little girl has a one track mind. She used to be a breeder and she still has no problems doing that lol.

I was wondering when you get rid of her egg do you feel bad?I always feel a little sad when I have to get rid of one of Annies eggs,it's a shame there is no market or interest in Lovies where I live.

The way I look at it the egg is not really an egg until they start to sit on it and incubate. Nothing happens inside the egg until they do. It's replaced before that happens.

I'm much more concerned with not bringing another cockatoo into the world that no one around here has the time, skill and patience to look after for the next possibly 70 years.

John, I would LOVE to see a video of your your fids and how they act before, during and after she laid the egg.

What do you plan on doing with it? It'll obviously be fertile.

Freeze it?

She's not consistent in that area. Sometimes she has 3 eggs (the most so far). Sometimes only 1. Normally she has 2.

I don't give her a chance to incubate it so it never really gets started.
