Hello everyone ♥
After some research, I bought coconut oil for Pasha. Do you also feed your parrot with coconut oil?
When and how much should I give?
I spoke to the vet, he said I should buy organic coconut oil.
It says on the bottle of the oil that it contains oleic acid. Yes, it is useful for humans, what about animals?
I'm really sorry if I sometimes ask you silly questions. :o: I just want the best for him. And I trust your experience very much.

This may be interesting to you. Although it is mostly geared towards baby parrots.

On my phone, so sorry for all the edits. In my view if Pasha is on a balanced diet with proper pellets, fresh veg, and nuts required for a macaw. He probably doesn't really need extra fat.

Oh, thank you so much.
To tell the truth, I wanted to take it to care for Pasha's beak.
Later, while surfing the Internet, I read that some people regularly feed their parrots with coconut oil. When I spoke to the vet, he said that coconut oil was not needed. But I said I want to buy it to rub it in his beak and he said buy the organic one.
I also wanted to get your opinion.

Feeding your bird coconut oil is not in the best interest of your bird's health. Coconut oil is almost 100% saturated fats which contributes to the development of Atherosclerosis. Macaws are prone to atherosclerosis anyway and do not need the addition of saturated fats. There are other oils that are better and full of the Omega 3 and 6. Flax oil, olive oil and red palm oil are three of the best oils to feed a bird.

For rubbing on his feet or beak, I far prefer Vitamin E oil. Vitamin E is part of the natural defense for mammals and bird and is included in their natural metabolic process -coconut oil is not. Coconut oil is also quite sticky, which I don't like at all.

Thank you very much indeed for keeping me informed. I think I'm a little confused. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet. I feel relieved when I share it with you. I'll rub his beak with vitamin e oil. I've been rubbing his beak with vitamin e oil before. This is how we will continue.
Thank you again

I personally think that the health benefits of coconut oil have been over stated for people and animals. I'd prefer my bird get healthy fats from nuts vs a glob of pure fat.
