Great picture!! Such sweet faces!!
I'm curious about the bruxing, teeth grinding. I take that it is a good thing? Is it anything like when birds grind their beaks? Like they're happy and tired? Sorry for all the questions but I'm just so curious about rats. I wanted one as teenager but wasn't allowed, but they still fascinated me and I like to own a couple one day
It is a good thing Rats actually naturally grind their teeth to maintain a good tooth length, unlike some rodents like rabbits that need something to chew on to keep the teeth maintained. For some reason though, they also do it when relaxed and happy - just like beak grinding in birds! Occasionally it can also be a stress thing, kinda like how cats will purr when happy but also can purr to calm themselves down.
Some also do something called "boggling" where their eyes vibrate and seemingly bounce in their sockets. THAT I have never seen though Apparently it has to do with the muscle of their jaw passing behind their eyes
Never have to be sorry for asking questions!
So sweet
That is very interesting.
I never cared for the naked rat tails (creeped me out) but since I had to take on 8 baby Opossums, those nekked tails don't bother me as much
Naked rats aren't really my thing either but have you seen naked guinea pigs? The black ones are like mini hippos
Thankyou!! That's all so interesting. Boggling sounds super cool although a little weird. I'd love see it and hope that you get to see it too
