6 Months Old - Lost Ability to Fly?

Hi all -

I am new here but have a 2 year old Parrotlet named Chicken and a 6 month old Budgie named Ducky. They are pretty good friends but I keep a close eye on them when they are outside of their separate cages. Ducky fell sick three weeks ago - vomiting, lethargic, and weak. I gave her chamomile tea, colloidal silver, and heated up the house. She recovered (fairly miraculously as my veterinarian uncle said she was most likely going to pass away). This past Tuesday she seems to have lost her ability to fly. She is eating, drinking, and bossing me around as per usual, but if she tries to jump and fly she falls to the ground.

Has anyone had any experience with this before? Today she jumped up from the ground and got about one foot of air and some gliding before coming back down. She was never a super strong flyer but she could hold her own. Thanks for any input you might have!

Sorry to hear this. I would bring her to a vet who regularly sees birds. It sounds like something is going on. Only they can determine what it is & what the prognosis is.

Thanks - I hate to say that my reason from holding back was due to the cost. An exam to start is $140 and then anything extra goes up from there. I love her so much but don't have a lot of extra cash laying around. Do you think that if I give her a couple of days and assess the situation, there could be much harm in that?

One can never tell, but if you can’t right now, you can’t. I’d try to see if I could find somewhere else to cut costs, at least temporarily.

I texted my uncle who is a vet in Ohio and he said it sounds like she is just recovering from being sick two weeks ago. Fingers crossed that she improves!

I might have him do so later next week - she has been trying to fly and is getting a little air but can't fly for longer than 1-2 seconds at most.
