Advice needed. Have had my 5 month old for one week. She is very timid and scared. I don't want to push her to hard or fast. She has gotten on my finger a few times but hard to get her out of her cage

another question. Should I put paper over the grate on the bottom of her cage

Her name is Gracie

Thanks

Welcome. I prefer newspaper over grate. I do it in layers. That way you can remove the soiled paper and clean is underneath.

Its normal for a bird to be timid and scared in a new place with a new person. Just go slow and speak softly. Let her get used to seeing you and hearing your voice. Any photos yet?

Hi Karen, and welcome to you and Gracie! I am also in the Dallas area (in case that's what your profile means)...
Can't wait to see pics.

Here is Gracie! We are in Dallas for those that are local. I tried to force her but now backing off to her terms.... She is beautiful and I love her melodic song

Welcome. Take things slow. Spend time just sitting with her and talking to her. You can try putting a perch just outside of her cage door with a treat or toy that she likes near it to start encouraging her to come out on her own.
