:hug8: @Macawnutz

Rupert has been in a mood the last few days, so I had to be careful offering him things via hand. I laid out an assortment of nuts for his show and tell (a must with anything "new"). Would you believe he actually tried to pick up that huge walnut right off the bat? He kept trying to pick it up with his foot. Next, he picked up the in-shell almond and tried to give that a go, then the pine nut (heh... not getting past that tough shell, buddy). The first success was the pistachio!

Moments after I stopped the video, he cracked off the shell and proceeded to eat every crumb. I think he liked it. I cracked a few various nuts with little success. I think he was losing interest because he'd eaten so much pistachio, but he did have a few nibbles of hazelnut, and I'm hopeful for that one. I'll have to give him a few more tries and see which ones he likes.

Your headline reminded me of that freakishly scary "Party in my Tummy!" song from some creepy kid show :roflmao::hilarious:

I love when they hold food with their lil feetsies!

He should like the pine nuts out of the shell. :)
I tried that. He wouldn't even eat any, even after me showing him me eating it... breaking off a tiny piece for him, and or giving him the unshelled nut in its entirety. He doesn't like almonds either, apparently.

He did eat walnut, hazelnut, macadamia (not his favorite, but he ate a couple of bites), and brazil nut! Pistachio was most definitely a winner.

He has expensive tastes.

My baby thinks the pistachio shells are heaps better than the nut so he ditches the nut and is in heaven once he has the shell! It is so very funny watching him with them. It took a while before almonds were acceptable to eat but they are as well received as pine nuts now. Still working on the other nuts though.
Rupert is such a cutie!

Lol no, not yet. I decided to use the stuff that was loose first. I am curious how much strength it'll take me to crack it!

You know what the whole ones look like? It reminds me of the humongous "pill" the quack doctor Miracle Max gave to Inigo and Fezzik to cure Westley in The Princess Bride.

A hammer?! You mean you can't use a nut cracker on it? If I can't, I'm tempted to wrap it up in a towel and whack it with a meat mallet.

No, a nut cracker won't do, I don't suggest a mallet either but have a good try. :)

Have a vice?

Perhaps! I looked it up, seems like originally people found a rock with a hole in it to stabilize the nut and they smash it with another rock. So... which of your birds are capable of cracking these, and how long does it usually take them?

We have a proper macadamia nut cracker which is like a little vice and sometimes even that has a hard time cracking the odd one. Seen lots of little kids in Queensland have injuries while trying to get into macadamia nuts with hammers and bricks, they certainly are very tough shells to get into!

Oof, I can just imagine! That's definitely something you need to be careful with.
