I wanted two freestanding perches for our two conures. I planned to use them at the dinner table and for training. The cost kept me away. So I decided to make them out of 1/2" PVC. Each perch cost me $15.51 to build. I wrapped the perches using co-flex I got from the Vet. The catch pan is 12x18 duct cover (there are no sharp edges on these) . (We used it at dinner so the purple one got a rinse in the sink, the birds were in bed when I finally finished so I will get some pictures in the AM)

The 1/2 PVC flexes so I would use bigger stuff if I was to build it for a bigger bird.

Nice! Does that vet wrap hold up to getting wet?
