This is a lutino Dusky Pionus born to normal parents. She is just a baby, born in october. She will be put into a breeding program with a parrot breeder who specializes in color mutations. Supposedly she is the 1st pionus mutation of her kind.

Wow! Where did you find that picture, do you know the breeder?

Thanks so much for sharing, she is breathtaking.

I don't warrant that type of breeding. I think that is not going to help the purity of the Dusky Pionus. If it was me, I surely would not be breeding it to make more.

This is not good, period.

She is quite lovely! I am neither for nor against breeding for color any more than I am for temperament. We've done it to dogs, cats, cows, horses, etc and it is one step along the path of domestication. Look at budgies, tiels, and ringnecks- to my knowledge, they're three of the longest kept parrots we've got and all sorts of color mutations.

I've heard of lots of breeders who are into research about pi's or breeding the rarer-found pi's, like coral billed, to try to raise enough to be able to begin marketing them in the US. I know Jan was involved with coral bills until quite recently. I've also heard of a lot of people who are involved with color mutations of other parrots: green cheeks, quakers, tiels, etc. This is the first time I've heard of anyone involved with color mutations of pi's though. Do you mind telling us who that breeder is? Thanks.
