How do you know the cardinal is a juvinial?

I think it's because of the small crest and darker colors on his back. We have a breeding pair that likes to talk to my lovebirds from the tree outside and he's got a bigger crest and none of the brown coloration on his back.

How do you know the cardinal is a juvinial?

Obviously a male. Still has a lot of grey in his feathers, hence Juvenile.
