What is a good comfort food for a newly weaned mini macaw? I want to have a warm food for him to sample
as a transition/comfort food to feed him from my finger/spoon/small bowl. What have you found that works? Anything homemade that you can suggest? Thanks, Lynne

My birds aren't toddlers any more but I still feed them warm comfort food every evening. They love it and it has made for a lasting wonderful bond. I take Roudy Bush pellets (crumble) and put boiling water in it and let it set until it's just warm and has turned into mush. Then I add different things in it each night. Some things they enjoy added into it are cooked sweet potato, grated apple, mashed bananas, raisins (soaked and soft) and so on. I figure this will be very beneficial if I ever have to give them medicine because they do devour my mush mixture!

I used Hagan Tropican handfeeding formula, same thing his breeder fed him.

I was giving my teenage Kakariki some HR mix, that my Lovie is currently eating, she LOVED it. Though I didn't know if I should be doing that? So I also need to make a warm mash for her to eat.

Nothing wrong with feeding it if someone regresses a bit or to mix with medicine. I keep it on hand just in case.

My birds love a mixture of finely chopped scrambled egg, well cooked rice, equal parts of oatmeal with a sprinkle of oregano. Just a spoonful of this while it is warm and right after all my birdies take a nap!

We have been giving Mia warm pureed vegetables, she scoffs it down every time without a fuss. :)
