This seems like a great toy. I just hung one of the skewer types in Holly's cage yesterday. The slots are fairly small, too small for a shelled nut, but unshelled ones might work. But I don't want her to have access to unlimited amounts of nuts. So, what items do you stuff in your bird's buffet ball?

I like to put in fresh veggies...yesterday I filled them up with Just Tomatoes' strawberries, bananas, and mango with some of Goldenfeast nutmeats.

You can mix treats and food with shredded paper....my birds love to pull the paper through the slats.

No, shelled nuts are great, once they are comfortable with the toy! They have to work to get the shell off so they can get the nut out. Also, mini vine balls, small cardboard circles, little wood beads. I use those for my caique, mixed with in shell peanuts, chunks of spray millet, nutraberries. For my red belly, I would add plastic toys, since he really seems to like those. I like to make mine up to leave in the cage for awhile, but you could also use chopped fruit or veggies, birdy bread, etc. Frozen cherries are a messy favorite of my caique's!

It depends on whether I am going to be home or not. If I am not home, Nutriberries, treats from Avian Organics, or other non-perishable items. If I am home, peppers and carrots work great.
