Drove over to a friend's house for a chat last night and came home with not one but three rescue budgies that needed homes asap. They were surrendered to a rescue a few months ago, and the rescue had become overcrowded, so I offered to adopt them. They're all less than a year old, and very cute. Will post pictures when I can! If anyone has name suggestions, let me know! I think there are two females and a male.

I am getting to where I don't think people should breed budgies anymore. Don't get me wrong they are great birds, but in my opinion they are treated worse than any other species. Mainly cause they are so cheap, they are considered throw away. Sad but glad you rescued them

I have thought about this many times. A friend of mine, after seeing pics of my birds wanted to get a budgie for his 5 year old daughter. I sent him a lonnnnng private message about that. They ended up getting her TWO kittens! I hope they take care of the kitties, he mentioned that he hoped they are mousers... ugh. I mean, I hope that is not the only reason they got them.

Budgies often end up being thought of as started birds by people that have little avian knowledge. They usually end up in the hands of a young person. Then when problems arise there is often no money for vet care. It is very sad to me.

M&M are full blooded English Budgies and came from a breeder in NJ. They were not inexpensive. Finding a hand raised EB or even mix EB with American is not easy.

Anyway good luck with your 3 budgies. Please become familiar with Avian Gastric Disease because budgies are very prone to have it. That way you can recognize any symptoms that may arise and begin treatment early. Basically you are observing the budgies for head bobbing, opening and closing the mouth as if trying to clear the crop and vomiting of undigested food.

I agree that too many people think that budgies are throw away or starter pets and it really makes me sad.

Unfortunately here in England the rescues will only let you adopt budgies is if you have a large outdoor aviary, which is why one day when I have a place with a garden I would love to have an aviary where I hope to adopt a few rescue budgies. Obviously this won't be for several years probably but still its a dream!
