We have lost our chinchilla, Fluffy. :-(

17 years ago my family and I took a journey to check out a local chinchilla breeder. This woman had the most gorgeous chinchillas in every color imaginable. My 6 and 9 year old sons fell in love with two of them: Fluffy and Veronica.
Fluffy was an absolutely GORGEOUS chinchilla! Snow white with charcoal tipped tail and ears. He was my 6 year old's constant companion.

My son was very active in sports, one of which was soccer. He was the team's goalie most of the time. I'm not exactly how or why this transpired, but one day while playing goalie, we blurted out 'Protect Fluffy! Save Fluffy!', hoping to motivate him to defend his goal even more. That phrase took off, and from that point on everyone would chant, 'Save Fluffy!' whenever he took battle defending the goal.

Fast forward to today: My son, now 24, went in to feed his little buddy, and found that he has passed naturally some time during the night. This little guy has lived with us for 3/4 of his life, and it's difficult to comprehend that our little Fluffernutter is no longer a part of our worlds.

We loved this sweetie with all our hearts.

I will miss this little guy. I will miss touching his ultra soft fur and having him greet me for his raisin treat. In the 17 years that we had him he only became sick needing vet care once.

Not too many people realize how sweet, gentle and beautiful these amazing animals are. They never bite, and their cages don't ever smell, definitely an added plus. They love to be in the company of another chinchilla, and spend a lot of their time cuddling each other. His companion, Veronica, lived beside him for 14 years. He mourned her passing for a very long time.

Never in our wildest imaginations did we ever think this little guy would be a part of our family for so many years. We still can't believe that he is gone, but find peace in knowing he is now with his little Veronica.
