I've never heard these birds in person, so I don't know if I'm fortunate or missing out lolThat's very quiet compared to Sunnies, Too's and Macaws!
Java is currently 429 grams and he still has about 100 grams to go. I'm not sure when his breeding season is, as the Internet says August - December, but my vet says May-July, and the breeder I got him from says later in the summer. As of now, he's molting, so I don't think he's in breeding season, but he chatters nonstop. They are supposed to be quiet except during breeding & I like that...
Is a Greater Vasa Parrot the Right Pet Bird for Yo...
500 grams is a pretty big bird...not macaw or too big but bigger than med size.
Hawkheads are about 250 g so halfish wt////
Yeah, he is closed banded, and I'm hoping he keeps his little "bird part" retracted. I'd hate for him to get it caught on something. I'm still trying to trace his exact age because his band doesn't have that information. The breeder is supposed to get back with me since she knows Java's original breeder.Vasa parrots
Breeding season may be more temperature/ light cycle related.
Most likely he is captive bred & never seen his island.
Interesting note about there private parts!!!
My suns were like what the heck is that and started throwing seeds at my monitor...I love the noises he makes! My lovie Fëanor was really interested in him, had his beak pressed to my phone lol!
They are just too funny! Henkie was sitting on my shoulder like hello mom? You were cuddling me? Where has my attention gone??My suns were like what the heck is that and started throwing seeds at my monitor...
