Poor Bubblegum, that looks and sounds nasty. Glad you were able to get to a vet that could help. Hope she continues to improve.
What you said about the emergency vet, I also spoke to my a-vet about what to do in emergencies and she told me to go to the 24 hr animal emergency near me. She said that there is usually somebody there that knows a little about birds but that a-vets can be contacted by them if needed. Such a relief to know that our birds can be seen and treated out of a-vet hours. Cos we all know that the birds get sick or hurt at the wrong time (when our a-vet is not open)

I'll be leaving to my avian vet in about 20 minutes. They are already seeing another patient and can see me at 11am.

Bubblegum looks stable and had a sip of water this morning. I think she vomited overnight as there are seeds sprayed around her cage even though I haven't given her any food yet. No poop yet either.

Oh my goodness that had to have been very scary! I'm so glad you got her to a vet. I hope she will be ok after her ordeal and hope your Avian vet gives you good news tomorrow when you take her in to them. Good luck and keep us posted on her progress.

Oh poor baby Bubblegum! What a horrible experience for both of you! I hope your vet is able to give you some answers and that Bubblegum heals quickly.

Just got home from the avian vet.

Bubblegum is being kept there because she stopped perching on the way and looked very flat and dispondent.

They've already taken a blood sample. Haematology will be run in house to check for infection and the rest sent away for biochemistry to check liver and kidney functions.

Vet thinks she probably had trouble with the egg because she has a pre-existing fracture in her lower spine that has been causing her problems since I adopted her. An x-ray will be taken later once she is more stable. Right now they have given her pain meds.

I should get the haematology results soon. It only takes a few minutes to run those.

Bubblegum just passed away. She deteriorated rapidly in the last 5 minutes and went into cardiac arrest. They couldn't save her.

Haematology showed she did have an infection.

I've requested a post mortem. The vet will do that soon and let me know.
