For me any way...
Ever since reading about them, I have wanted to try a riparium. A riparium is an aquarium with plants cascading and growing out of the top. The plants are suspended at the surface.
I got this little vintage metaframe tank to start the project

and am trying to win this vintage lamp

Stay tuned!:dance4:

That is really cool! Might be a good way to get the benefits of plants without the risk of asper that soil carries?

Thanks. Asper is probably the least of my worries dealing with aquatics....
There is microbacterium marinum, vibrio, fish tuburculosis, fish handler's disease, mad fish disease to name a few. It is one of the dirty secrets of keeping an aquarium. If you use common sense you are usually ok though.

Thank you Matt. Kind of a cross between a vivarium, and an aquarium.

Sounds like an exciting adventure in plant keeping. Please show us lots of pictures. We may be a tad jealous but we still want to see it.

Thanks everyone! MFD is most commonly associated with handling raw fish, tilapia being one of them.

I bet it will be beautiful. Do you keep anything in it other than the plants? Any other living things?

Wow !!! What a neat idea! Never heard of them before. I have had terrariums, and currently have a 55 gal housing the turtle I have had for more than 20 years, that I try to keep some live plants in. Anxious to see yours when its done and what plants you put in. The principle of what you are doing would work in my 55 as there is half water and then space to the top with lots of light from the full spectrum bulbs. Thanks for sharing!
