Hello! Yuki is an approximately 6 month old parakeet. I've been finger training him for almost a month. He seems to go back and forth between being eager to jump on my finger and to moving away like he doesn't know me.

I've never had to train on my own before so my question is, is this normal? I'm being consistent in what I'm doing but not sure where we are. He was jumping on my finger even without a treat now he hesitates even with millet.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you’re still in the trust building phase. Keep going, consistency and patience usually win out in the end. Go at the birds pace and don’t push it to accept anything it isn’t ready for.
While some birds love human interaction and others may put up with it for a pay off there are some that are never interested or accepting of it.

Makes sense. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing. Hopefully he'll want to be friends. Thank you!
