Meeting neighbors
Our unrelated mixed sex Parrotlet pair Popo and Izi are very tightly bonded. They are health-cleared rescues, and their previous owner said they don’t breed successfully. She suspected the female is infertile.
My question is, is it safe to leave them together? From what I’m reading, parrotlets can be rather violent with each other. I haven’t seen anything like that with them, beyond Izi being a little fury-volcano of hormonal rage just in general. They flock call each other constantly, and even just getting too far apart in their cage will set them off shrieking.
I don’t want to stress them by separating them, but I also don’t want to find sweet Popo pecked to death. Neither of them are remotely tame. I’m working on it, but it’s very slow.
Should I separate them now and make them miserable? I’d rather not, frankly. It seems like their lives have been kind of crappy, and I’d like for them to be maximally happy for a change, and they do make each other happy. But, on the other hand, Parrotlet cage-rage.
