 My little greencheek will only eat the fruity zupreem! He does eat some but very little fresh things also. Is this just due to the fact he is an ekie?

Are they stress bars? Is this how they would present in an ekkie?

 I'm assuming it's something like red suffusion as an indicator of organ damage from malnutrition?

Bismark is still a doll even with his yellow feathers:heart: This was a bird that Tanya adopted out about 5 or 6 years ago, he just came back into her care.
Tanya said that with an Ekkie specific diet he will go back to a normal lovely green as he molts :)

PS: This is the perfect example of giving someone all the info about care, and them dropping the ball when life changed :(

How strange. I always heard ekkie's require a fine diet. I think he is cute, even if it is from a bad diet. From zupreem? Really? Half my birds eat that crap.

That is something. How long did it take to do that damage, and was he eating just those pellets, or those pellets along with other foods?

Awww.... still a very beautiful little guy though!!

Ekkies shouldn't have any pellets, right? Or is it just some that have issues?

:eek::eek:Wow, thank God I got Jazzy off of Zupreem. Bird Channel did a survey on what brand owners feed their birds and zupreem got the most votes which was not good to see. Things will change for this little cutie now that Tanya is his care taker again. It is such a shame this has happened to his feathers.:( Tanya, what brand do you feed your birds? Or do you use any at all?

I personally find him to be so sad looking. Those feathers look unhealthy and he looks plucked some. I know under Tanya's care he will improve!

And people argue that Zupreem pellets are perfectly o.k. because they contain all FDA tested and approved ingredients and colorants..... :sad8:

Whoa whoa whoa.....

Are we really sure that's what caused it? I thought the title was a joke. If that is the case and we can see proof, that's fine, but I am skeptical. I feed all my birds Zupreem ( natural, not colored ) and I've never had any problems. ( On a side note, when I was new to birds I fed colored zupreem without any ill effects. ) This includes the Eclectus, and that includes random blood panels to monitor health.

In the past, I've seen a bird like that online & in one of my books. I recall it saying that the bird was actually a hermaphrodite, which is why the coloring was unique.

If it's from deficiency, then it's sad, but if it's not....I think that looks rather cool.
