Strolling the yard
I bring my birds to work with me about once a week, and I have a medium-sized cage set up next to my desk.
While they're out in my office, I've been consistently putting them on a certain perch in the cage every 15 minutes or so to give them an opportunity to poop in the "right" place (i.e. a place where they'll get a reward for doing so).
They've now learned to associate that perch with pooping, so if they're shut in the cage and want to come out, they'll climb down to the perch, make sure I'm watching, and then poop.
Smart birds! I let them out when the do this, because I think it's a great positive way for them to ask to come out of the cage.
