Hello parrot people!! I’m sure you’ve come across a post like this before but I’m very intrigued about the black lory (not the black capped lory). I have been trying to find one for myself for a few months now with no luck. In my searches I have learned a ton about this species and about lorikeets in general. One common thing I come across in almost every article about them is what “good birds they are” and how they seem to be one of the “friendliest” lorikeets. But if this is the case, why is it so difficult to find them for sale? My first thought was maybe it was because of their dark colorations. Maybe people want bright flamboyant birds. However, everyone that I have ever shown the black lory can’t get over how beautiful they are with their golden eyes and red and yellow tail feathers against their black bodies and head. I think these birds are absolutely striking, so it seems odd that this is a species that we don’t see more of. The same goes for my other dream bird the greater vasa. I’ve heard so many good things but have yet to find myself one. But that’s a bird for another post. I’m not a breeder myself, so maybe it’s a breeding problem. Which brings me to the point of the post. I’m looking for a black lory. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. So far I have come up empty handed in my searches and have even had to beat back a few scammers (be careful out there guys). If anyone knows of some reputable breeders of the black lory or if anyone has any info or firsthand experience with these birds I would love to hear from you. I’m newer to this forum but so far I’ve been welcomed with open arms and it’s nice to see that there are other parrot obsessed people out there.
