Super worried about my BF Amazon

Last night he wasn't very talkative as usual. He was talking though and eating, so I wasn't very worried. This morning he is very lethargic. Not talking at all. Though he did climb out of his cage when I opened it. He usually talks a lot in the AM. He doesn't appear to have any trouble breathing. He just seems sleepy. He is sitting on his perch on one foot with his head tucked. He nibbled on a little food. He just seems off. My hubby is taking him to the vet in a couple of hours. I am just freaking out with worry. This is the first time I've dealt with a sick bird. My other bird, a BH Caique, is just fine. Hopping around like her normal crazy self. So I don't think it is environmental. I just feel so helpless, not knowing what to do for him. Doesn't anyone know what could cause these symptoms? His poo seems fine except there are a few small bubbles in it. I know that can be a sign of infection. I guess mostly I needed to vent. Waiting is so difficult

My best advice to you, if you think your BF is ill, is to take him to the vet for a check up which is what you are planning on doing. Let us know what happens. I hope all will be well.

Even if it turns out everything is fine (which we hope) you did the best thing by having him checked since you feel something is wrong.

I am especially worried because he came from a very unhealthy environment. We adopted him 3 weeks ago from a home that smelled oppressively like smoke. There were ashtrays all around, I was actually pretty angry that a bird would be kept in such conditions. We were adopting him because the owner needed the money and space. I ended up feeling like we rescued him. He is still a little shy but day by day I have been earning his trust. I just love this guy to pieces and pray he is ok. He is on the way to the vet with my husband now. Here's my buddy!

It's good that you're taking him to a vet (and nice of you to take him in). Bubbles in the droppings can be a sign of infection- but antibiotics should clear it up, if that's it. Keep us posted on how he's doing.

Hello and welcome to AA! I'm hoping your new buddy is okay and it's nothing serious. I've heard that birds can go through nicotine withdrawal the same way humans do but I don't know if 3 weeks would have that effect on him already. I'll keep my and say a little for all of you. Thank you so much everyone! I am very happy to report that Paco got a clean bill of health from the vet! My husband said she was very thorough and knowledgeable and spent a great deal of time checking Paco over and ran a few tests to be sure. When I got home he was talking up a storm. What a relief! I am so glad my husband took him to the vet, I wanted to take him anyhow and have him check over, just wasn't expecting to do so under these circumstances.
