I’m really addicted to paper cord right now. It makes an awesome squeaking sound when chewed!
Have you picked up your chewing habits from your fids? :embarassed:

Sorry, couldn't resist.

And yeah, I know the squeaking sound you're talking about. It's similar to the sound leather makes as well, which is probably why Rupert loves gnawing on it so much.

1/4” then? You can do it! Let’s have some small bird creations please!

Okay, it's been a week and I said a week.

1/4" is the smallest wood I have ever seen.... It needed special care through every production stage and I'm not used to that.
The saw... The pieces are so thin they fall down the cut hole  They are also so light my shop vac attachment wants to suck them in.
The drill press... they are delicate little pieces and you can't go fast at all or you will crack them. :wideyed:
The sander.... ummm, yeah that was fun.
They needed separate handling spaces from the rest of my pieces, the weight of a macaw block snaps them.
Needless to say they were dyed today and everything is drying. I need about 3-4 more days. :p

I'm dysfunctional, I can't do small. I keep trying. :) I need exact measurements and if you say 1/8" thick I'm out. ;)

You can keep sending the 1/8" people my way then (via @calibird who is my dealer)

Pro tip I hear is drilling first THEN cutting to reduce breakage ;)

Also put a little thingy over your shop vac hose; y'know, something like chicken wire so it only gets itty bitty stuff.

P.S. I could send you a tiny flying piranha if you need help with sizing. ;)

Did you read my words? I think the 1/4" people can go your way too.
I imagine your cute little shop where everything is tiny and the toys don't require but a few pieces of wood. :xflove: Some of my toys have 100 pieces of wood on them! It's a loud dusty sweat shop were nothing is leisurely. I cut pieces two at a time, drill pieces 3 at a time, sand 4 at a time and dye in 5 gallon buckets. I plan what I have to do in a day and in my head say "MARKS SET GO"! There is no way I would drill first. :p 1/8" wouldn't happen, my saw throws bigger dust than that. :hilarious:

It does only suck the itty bitty stuff. What I'm cutting is pretty itty bitty. ;)
I will need pictures of birds with these, what I'm making is foot toy size for my flock. I doubt very much I'll be doing many toys in this size as they really take me out of my zone. Plus, my husband looked at me like WTH are you doing? I said back... "I'm really not sure honey".

That's too funny. Really, foot toy size sounds about right for us smaller bird people.

You guys can't like it... Then I will have to make them. I don't even know what that hole size was... needle size for sure!

The holes were probably 1/8 inch or a little larger, judging by the paper chord.

Probably 1/8". The little beads are 3/8" and the embedded beads are 1/4". I slam 3/8 or 1/2 in my toys. I'm always drilling 1/2 - 1" holes so this one was needles. ;)

The toy itself is strung on thicker paper rope. The flowers are tied with the smaller stuff. If that helps. Lol
