Some night time musings from Milton....

When we go to bed at night, my wife says goodnight to the animals a la "The Waltons" TV show. Milton hears her every night and decided to respond...

Wife: Goodnight, Milton...

Milton: "I GOOD BIRD"...

Wife: Goodnight Buddy...

Milton: "BAD BIRD"...

Wife continues through roster of the birds...Milton comments after each one..."bad bird" or "good bird". I don't know how his opinions were compiled, just his mood, I guess. When she got to the piggies...

Wife: Good night, Harvey...

Milton: "DAT A BAD PIG!"

Wife: Good night, Irving...

Milton: "EAT PIG NOW!"

Wife: We're not going to eat the pigs, Milton...you're a bad bird!

Milton: "I A PRETTY PRETTY GOOD BIRD....GOODNIGHT"...

Milton always seems to get the last word...

Very cute but very telling. Milty looks like he may be jealous of poor Buddy. You know what also may be happening? I am wondering if Milty thinks that he is going to disappear and a new bird will take his place. Is that possible?

Milton IS jealous of Buddy...and Buddy is jealous of Milty. They don't interact with each other..and we don't let birds birds see us interact with the other bird. They do hear each other, and all the other birds...that can't be changed.

I also believe that Milton's plucking was at least partially caused by his dislike of Buddy. Since they're out of each other's sight, there really hasn't been any new plucking by Milt. It's hard to tell what Milty otherwise thinks...like is he going to disappear.

The bottom line is that Milty and Buddy do have a lot of the same personality...it's bound that they clash, I guess. It just adds a little more craziness to the life we have...

Give Milton a hug from us! What a character! Definitely has an opinion, that's really incredible. It's like he's an "old soul" in a birds body. Definitely very unique. Although when my son and I were discussing the price of Freddy and about getting him in general, Jefferson, the U2, had his opinions about Freddy and said he wasn't a bad price! By watching us, they learn the ability to reason. Really something.

I'm constantly amazed on how many stories I see about U2s and their reasoning abilities. I love the species...and I consider U2s and M2s the "ultimate cockatoo"...that's not taking anything away from any other 'too...after all, Cassie, who will be forever my bird, was a LSC...

Sorry about that...Cassie B Bird was a Lesser Sulfur Cockatoo...hence "LSC". A "BE" would be a Bare-eyed Cockatoo...a very strikingly beautiful 'too...

Milton does have an opinion on every human...or creature that inhabits the house, for sure...and the opinion is based on how that person or creature can benefit MILTON....
