Came in to the bird room last night and Kirby flew over to me. I noticed that Bella was trying to fly to me but couldn't:confused: I walked over to her and her foot had fallen through the bars of the cage and her ring got caught so she couldn't get her foot back out:eek: After a little struggling, I had to have my husband come in while I held her, he was able to finagle her foot from inside the cage and get it back through the bars! I felt soooo bad. She cuddled up against my chest and was panting. I held her and pet her for awhile and then put her in her cage for water. Scary. I'm not sure whether I should have the band cut off or just try to attach something to the top of Kirby's cage so it doesn't happen again. He has a dome top cage and they hang out on it all the time.

If it was my bird the band would come off.

That's what I am thinking. She only 10 weeks old and the band seems so big :( I'm considering it. I'm just afraid if she ever escapes, I won't have any way to ID her.....

Her chance of escaping is very low (get her micro chipped if that is all your worried about). This band has "already" caused an incident that you were "lucky" never turned out worse. It's also a preventable incident by simply removing the band. It's a no brainer in my mind.

Oh no, how scary. I am so glad she is ok. What kind of bird is Bella? Are you ever, even remotely possibly going to move out of the country? Some birds are more protected than others, and can't leave unless banded, like my moluccan Paco. Just a thought.

Bands can be so dangerous for some birds. I also had to remove Ruby's years ago. I glad Bella is alright. :hug8:

We don't plan on ever leaving the country so that won't be a problem:) I think I'm just going to have the band removed. Kirby is too small to get him a cage with bigger bar spacing (that was my first though). The only thing I can think of is to remove the band. There is a large door to the back yard in the bird room though, I'm thinking I may need to clip her wings if I remove the band.

I would have her microchipped. It's scary to think of how many things those bands can get stuck on, causing injury. I'm so glad you came into the room when you did!

Please, please have that band removed. I had Nicky's (SC) removed, & had him microchipped. If your bird is a greencheek or larger, microchipping can be done. Good luck (even more than you just had!)

I had my lovie Marco's band removed shortly after I adopted him because he kept chewing on it and by extension on this foot and nails and I could just see more problems arising from keeping the band on him than from taking it off. He hasn't fiddled with his foot/leg since it was removed.

I'm just glad your little fid was okay; it's so scary when a fid get's caught in something because all they want is to get out of what they're in and it's impossible to explain to them that they need to stay still for us to help them. :o:
