So mama left the nest...not sure if she took other babes with her or what but she was definitely gone and nonother eggs or babies . Other birds were poking around the nest. So what to do with this and how do I know if it's alive before tossing it?? Figured the breeders could give me insight.

If she laid it with the other eggs, it could be DIS or it was never viable.
I´m not sure if you can candle Robin eggs.

I suppose candling could be tried but I find it strange that the robin left it behind. When a robin nested near our kitchen door very close to the water tap for the hose, we were dive bombed by both mum and dad from the eggs until the chicks fledged. I also found out that robins never use the same nest location twice.

Interesting article. She was returning to the nest a lot. It is right by our front window so last we really noticed was last weekend. I watched all day saturday and checked sat night and mama was gone. The nest is still intact and one of those cow birds was hanging around the nest and egg. I keep freeze dried mealworms, suet, etc. out front so mama had access to food.... maybe she was a new mama.
