Thank you Martine and Megan. Diatoms are the brown that you see on the inside of the glass and on the plants. That is the dying cells, and it will soon be gone. All new tanks experience diatoms, some worse than others. It is a unicellular algae, in the order of phytoplankton. All water has diatoms in it. If you look at my latest thread, you will notice after a big water change, and filter sock change, they are almost gone.

Just like birds, keep trying:) Did you microwave them first? I wet them good, place in a paper towel, microwave until soft..a few seconds.
