I am making a new chop today. I want to use pumpkin and acorn squash. I will put it all in the processor and then freeze in baggies (with all the greens). My questions are: Do you steam the pumpkin and squash first? Do you peel them? I know they love the seeds but do you remove them and prepare them (dry them) or just dump it all in the processor?

I only used to flesh and the skin, I used it raw. I haven't used the seeds yet as I wasn't sure how to give them just like you! I Will keep a close eye on this thread:)

I give it raw ad don't cook it usually, unless I need it for baking bird crackers and need the moisture when I'm adding whole grain flower. The pumpkin seeds, I just washed really well, dried them with paper towels and gave it to them. They were pretty happy with it. I'll try baking some I suppose to see how they like it roasted but so far I've never done it for them. We salt and pepper when we bake it and eat it ourselves too!

I'm changing the way I do chop and taking away all the grains ... no more quinoa and brown rice. I am replacing it with squash and pumpkin. I ended up not including the seeds but will add them as a treat later. I will add sprouts fresh and he will have his fruit on the side.. If I only ate like Dobey!

If you are going to freeze it, you need to blanch it. Why are you taking away the grains?

I blanched the pumpkin, Ella will not eat it unless it is somewhat soft but not to mush. I dryed the seeds and she just threw them, they are so not almonds in her opinion. :wacky:

Raw. I only cook things I can't chop easily like sweet potato. Why are you removing grains?

I blanched them for a few minutes. I spoke to an Eclectus specialist that recommended I remove the grains (keep sprouted grains). His new chop will be missing the brown rice, quinoa and yams. I could use sprouted quinoa but they turned out slimy so I pitched them. I have other sprouts I can use fresh daily. His new chop today was the pumpkin and acorn squash, dandelion greens. collard greens, rainbow carrots, cauliflower, red bell pepper with turmeric and cinnamon. I normally would had added radishes and Kale but forgot them at the store.

Is there a special Reason you take out quinoa? If you found out that it is not that good for them I would love to know too, cause I feed it to my babies a few times a week:)

:hehe: I try to eat as Healthy as my birds too:lol:

Edit I just read the rest! I mostly feed it sprouts so I guess I can keep that:)
