It was hot and dry in the city of Penrith , New South Wales Australia and the roots and tubers of this grass was sooooo succulent tasting. Who can blame these guys right? Can anyone tell me what species they are?

Feathered pests ;). Only joking! The smaller version of these guys used to flock in huge numbers at my old university.

We have slender bills, when I worked at the bird store, we had one occasionally get boarded. And sometime you can find them for sale or rehoming.:)

We have the Eastern Slender Billeds here in the states...there are probably a few Westerns but I've never heard of them. It's hard to tell with this picture, but I do think they are the Westerns...the Easterns have a ton of pink on their chests.

It was the eastern we had boarded at the bird store. I honestly didn't know there was a western. This one that board was very young, still needed handfeeding, and looked nothing at all like a little Correla. And it had a much longer beak. I knew they were not common but didn't know they were rare :)

Rare is in the eye of the beholder...the D2 and the RB2 are considered rare as well.

Okay great research guys. But in Australia this species is known by another name in the field guides and no one has named it yet. Hint...In older books it was known as Slender-billed Cockatoo. Your doing great though!

i see a few of these guys around also. not as common as the regular corellas. but one area i go to has quite a few around. first time i saw one i thought it was a regular corella and its throat had been cut.then i realized it was a different bird altogether.

Great comments folks and lots of fun for sure. Great fun to learn new things about Aussie Parrots right? Okay and the correct name (which Mercedes named correctly) is..........
Drum roll please....................................:dance4:

LONG-BILLED CORELLA ... This was a group in the east in New South Wales and at Penrith. This groups was nesting actually right outside a hotel on one of the main streets. I think the hotel was called Grey Gum Hotel or something like that. Maybe one of my mates from the area can correct me.

They also occur in the west around Perth but in very small numbers.

Cheers!

Don
