Oooo, I like the idea about rolling out linoleum and having heavy things hold it down over out carpeting...now why didn't I think of that sooner?
Definitely going to try in the new place if the bird room ends up being carpeted, hehe.

Saroj a friend of mine who owns a hair salon in his basement painted his concrete floor to look like tile, he taped off diamond shaped sections and did different colors. You can get paint at Home Depot that has very little fumes in it. If you want I can find a picture so you can see. When I saw it I actually thought it was tile it turned out so good!

I am so happy to hear that your poor birds will soon have someplace to play!!!!
It was hard to watch them suffer in that measly little room of yours.

There is even "pretty" garage floor paint with speckles

You check out the safety of it, i have no idea :D :D :D

Why don't you just buy them a plastic bubble, they can live in that.

Not sure all that stuff would fit in a bubble, I bet the bubble would give off fumes too

Kathy - that is awesome I've never seen any one do that with a concrete floor :D

of course I couldn't do it I don't have the attention span to do all the details of the diamonds

I'd just get the biggest roller brush they sell and slap on some paint - and knowing me it would be Purple LMAO

LOL Kelli, he did such a good job I actually asked him if he laid the tile himself!

My husband told me I could have my dune buggy any color I wanted....I chose purple!

That looks awesome! I think it might be less time consuming to tile than to do all of that with paint

Have you thought about Pergo flooring? They interlock like puzzle pieces, so it's easy to remove without demolishing it. You can lay it back down when you're ready.

Awesome idea Kelli!
As soon as we can, I want to get some for our spare room seeing as we can no longer switch to hardwood floors - landlord backed out of paying half and says it's not enough noise barrier unless we get the expensive underflooring. So this will be our only option.

That sounds like an awesome idea!!! If it aired out properly I bet it would be just fine!

Why don't you just buy them a plastic bubble, they can live in that.

That looks AMAZING!!! Who knew you could do that with concrete paint?? Gorgeous!!!

As far as the A/C goes - what about going with a portable unit?
You'd probably spend just as much on a window unit that could cool such a large room anyways - and this way you don't need to have an ugly thing sticking out of your window or have to make any special accomodations for it.
There are various models at Home Depot - portable air conditioners to choose from based on what color, size, and look you want.

It's what I'd choose if I had a room like yours, along with the painted concrete floor would make an awesome room.

Just think of the additional birds that could now go live with you!! :hehe:

Ooooooooohhh and the shopping to fill up that room!!

We'll definitely need another SS!!!!:hehe::rofl:

Not that you need another bird room, but if you insist....lol

I would paint or stain the floor and then let it air out.

We live in a 100 year old house. We do not have forced air, so glad we decided against it. lol We have hot water heat, so we use window units. We run four - five units in the summer and they are not bad at all. All of them are digital and run fairly quiet on low to medium settings. They maintain a nice temperature and don't look that bad at all. We remove most of them in the winter and it does not take much time at all...the only one we leave in is the beast we bought for our entire first floor. We just cover it in the winter. We only paid $500 for the unit that does our whole first floor, versus a split system that would have been very expensive and we would need at least three units installed.

I don't remember but think I heard the portable units were not as efficient, were more expensive to purchase, plus they take up floor space. I would not want one over a window unit....
