There is a warning burr that they also do if they see danger...but usually that is associated with an alert status...neck and head up and feathers flattened. Or a fluffy bird with sleepy eyes would be contentment.
Yes, they have 2 purrs. One is a warning. Mine will do it for a bug in the house or too close to their cages outside, staring daggers at the intruder until someone chases it away. Pretty funny. They will also purr with one foot tucked and sleepy eyed to show they are content in their little world.
Gilligan purrs when he is on my shoulder as wander through the house, or look out a window. Always happiness. When he does not like something, he yells "EEEP! EEEP! EEEP! EEEP! He hates the vacuum cleaner, he even yells if you walk in with a small piece of it!
