IMG_6221.JPG FullSizeRender.jpg IMG_8517.JPG Layla is about 3 years old. I am home number 3 for her. She has never been introduced to a harness before and I wasn't sure how it was going to go because of that. My previous little guy was fully flighted and harness trained since 7 months old so I was reluctant with Layla being that she has been clipped since a baby and a bit older. She took it like a champ though. No blood shed by me:). She has the easiest going personality with everything. Still wondering how I got so lucky with her.

I have two brands of harness. Aviator and feather tether. Aviator is the way to go. Hands down. At least for this size bird. All that metal is dang heavy on the feather tether.

Sharing a few images of our little adventures. We were able to visit the pond and the neighbors horses on our walks.

Another bonus of this success. For some reason she becomes extra affectionate with the harness on. Lol.

Thats great ..I have yet to get any of my birds to take a harness ...Tyrion has always tried to kill me and Ghost just looks at it like its going to kill him ..I am so envious of people who can get their birds to wear one ..I would love to take Tyrion outside and show him the world ...good for you :laughing12:

Layla isn't the norm I imagine. She really has no fear of anything. Lol. I'm seriously lucky. She is easy (easy cockatoo....two words that never seem to go together. Lol). Jasper my bare eyed/goffin took much longer. He was only 7 months old but he was scared of anything new. I really think it would have been impossible with him if he had been an older bird when I attempted it. I'm hoping the new baby that comes home in August will be just as easy as Layla. Fingers crossed but not sure I'll be so lucky again. Lol

I harness trained my Elvis when I first brought him home. It was the best decision I ever made. We go for long walks and he is able to fly outside safely. Good job! & Layla is precious!!....:)

Thanks everyone! I'm pleasantly surprised at how easy she is taking to the harness. Big weight lifted because it was something I was nervous about with not getting a little baby. Luckily her past owners did a good job at getting her used to new things. Makes a huge difference I think.

Wonderful....my Dusty (corella) was harness trained at 6 months...I love that we can have time outdoors in the garden together...she rides the wheelbarrow, sits in a tree,or just hitchhikes ...now your bird can have adventures too

You're so lucky! I have had my Freddy about 7 weeks, he's a sweetheart but was traumatized as a baby and will take extra time to socialize. i immediately loved him, he is 7 years old and afraid of everything! Poor guy has lived 7 years in my friend's pet store and right now doesn't even know what a ball is. He wasn't even going to sell him because he wasn't sure how he would take to people. I got him and he comes out of hiscage, flies around the room, plays with us and after 4 weeks of being with us, has let us all pet him already. Time, love and patience. So envious! I hope I can get my Freddy to do that! He's a Galah also.

Awe. Poor Freddy. Sounds like he has found his soft place to land though and will get comfortable with his new life in no time! I am very lucky with all of my girls. They all are super brave. Nothing phases them. Enjoy your new baby. Share lots of pics!
