I have 2 girls (who were originally thought to be boys). Grahamy (feminized from Graham) and Erica (formerly known as Eric). I also had a boy named Monty.

The original names of the tiels is important because they were named after members of Monty Python.

I have two Tiels. The first is a female named Frost because the day we picked her up we got locked outside out our car for an hour and it was freezing and we had to sit in a donut shop until the locksmith came. My other Tiel is a male I originally named Rah'ul but as time passed I realized he didnt feel like a Rah'ul so I renamed him Zephaniah Roman. I think it fits him.

I just adopted my boy, Barley. He is such a doll. I will hopefully have another baby soon to keep Barley company while I'm at work. Lol, we learned very quickly at his first bird club meeting that he adores other cockatiels, although I will be taking extreme caution in introducing another bird.

Cockatiels, like budgies, are BIG time flock birds and unless you can give them at least 12 hours out of cage time each and every day, need at least one other cockatiel around them for socializing. The flock means that much to them.

When you get his companion, get that bird his own cage. Never just shove a new bird into an existing bird's cage. The cage is their territory and they could decide to fight the new bird to the death to defend it. Once the two birds know one another, then you can consider caging them together.
