I just came across this one womans uploads on You Tube. She has many vids of what she calls a Phillipine Blue Napped Parrot. I had never heard of this type of parrot, and it resembles IRN's and Alex's.

Does anyone here have one?
Some of her vids show a male named Pippin who had interesting markings.....Im intrigued!

Tell me what you know.....

Yeah, they're cute. There was one in a local bird store. I was going to get it for breeding, but then thought better of it as finding a mate would have been kinda hard. They're not very common.

Hi Kim, I too fell in love with that parrot about a year ago first time I saw one. I am in Vancouver and have had NO LUCK finding any in Canada. i did find one in Florida and tried to convince them to ship it to Canada but no luck.....There is a Tanygnathus Society....you can check them out. I found a breeder in Canada for the Great billed parrot which is the larger version.....they are very rare to find. If you, have had any luck let me know.....The breeder has 3 chick 2 female one male...they are $1300 for now till they become more popular then the price will be going up to $2000 or more....thats all I know. Oh they are not particularily cuddly birds rather they like to hang out with you but not big on being petted etc.
Marlies
He almost looks like a hybrid with the body shape of an IRN, but the coloring of a great bill. That is a very gorgeous bird, but it sounds like it is very rare which explains why most of us have never heard of it before. How sad, I just read that not only are they endangered, they are almost extinct.
Thanks for resparking this thread :)
I never did locate any breeders, and rehomes of this type of bird, and so I gave up the search. But Id love to hear from anyone who ends up owning one, they are just absolutely stunning!!!! Thanks for the info Marlies!

They are very stunning, for sure! Never heard of them before seeing this, but I love the similarities in the beak shape a color, the eyes, the head shape, and the facial markings to the other species mentioned. Pretty cool!

I know someone who has a male and she absolutely adores him. He seems to be very easy going.

There is a woman on YOUTUBE, I believe she is a breeder (rita191919), who has 2 Great Billed Parrots--I think if anyone breeds Blue Napes, she would know. I agree with you, they are absolutely GORGEOUS, & I love, Love, LOVE the way they're always mumbling to themselves:heart::heart::heart:

Blue-naped parrots are smaller Tanygnathus like the Great-billeds, and not in the Ring-necked family. They are exceedingly rare in N. America, even more than the GBP.

She's a member here. If you search for Great-billed or Tanygnathus, her threads should come up. :)

From what I've researched about them in the past, the Tanygnathus species (Great Billeds, Phillipine Blue Napes and Mueller's) have temperments fairly similar to Eclectus. The females tend to be dominant and the males are a bit more gregarious and easygoing as pets. PBN's seem to be fairly commonly kept in Asia as pets, just are nearly unavailable in the US except among a handful of breeders. The one Tany I saw years ago was a Mueller's, at a horrible breeder's home that I went to check out because she had some Brown Headed parrots for sale and I was thinking about getting a second poicephalus at the time. Then I am a Facebook friend with Barb so I have heard about her Phil, who is mentioned earlier in this thread...she got him as a rescue and has gotten him healthy and flying, plus he lives with a Great Billed friend named George. I just think they are stunning and the prettiest of the four species, and a more managable size for a companion bird (like Timneh/Alexandrine size) but no one seems to know much about them. Like most of the Phillipine's wildlife, they are supposedly 'near threatened' in the wild, so they are more endangered than the other three Tany species (there is also the Black Lored Parrot, which I don't think are in the pet trade at all).
